Petals from the Basket

Construction Ahead

I was privileged to have lunch with an amazing local copywriter and author yesterday. We met at a delightful cafe and had such a wonderful time that I can hardly wait to spend time with her again! (I’ll write more about that and tell you about her incredible book one day very soon.)

As one who believes that arriving “on time” is actually arriving “late,” I left early enough to be a bit ridiculous. I was later grateful for that cushion of time!

Because the route was very simple, I did not program the address into my Garmin (nicknamed “Greta”), but simply jotted down on a scrap of paper the road names and the words “left” or “right” as mapped out for me the night before by MapQuest. I followed the route easily. Then I saw it: “Road Closed Ahead.” NOOOOOO!!!!!

I’ve shared before that I am literally a gold medalist in being directionally challenged! I have NO sense of direction. None!

So I followed the signs. However, after taking a winding road that didn’t lead back to the original road, I was officially clueless as to my whereabouts—and I do mean clueless.

I pulled over, fretted, prayed (Yes, in that order. Shame on me!), finally programmed the address into my Garmin for Greta to find, and headed to the cafe without further delay!

Why didn’t I do that in the first place?

Why don’t I do that in my everyday life? So often I jot down the “basics” and think I’ve got it covered. But because I have no sense of direction within me apart from the leading of my Guide and Helper, I need His constant leading. When I rely on Him I know I can confidently follow, and I’ll end up in the right place! I don’t have to wonder if the path is the right one. He created the path, so He will lead me every step along that path!

This morning my mom sent me the following awesome verses and the following reminder: “As you have prayed, given your decision to the Lord, then made it, do not look back and wonder. Know it is the Lord’s plan for you.”

Psalm 32:7-11 “You are my hiding place; You preserve me from trouble; You surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah. I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you. Do not be as the horse or as the mule which have no understanding, whose trappings include bit and bridle to hold them in check, otherwise they will not come near to you. Many are the sorrows of the wicked, but he who trusts in the Lord, lovingkindness shall surround him. Be glad in the Lord and rejoice, you righteous ones; and shout for joy, all you who are upright in heart.”

I might just need to nickname her Mama Greta! 🙂

A much needed blog in my life today!! Very encouraging verses!
I am definitely with you on being “directionally challenged”!! I jokingly call myself “geographically dyslexic”! 🙂 Glad to know that I am not the only one out there.
